¿Y a vosotros?
How can a bass player gain more recognition in a band?
I've been playing in a pretty popular cover band for a little over a year. We do parties and bar shows and stuff. It's really fun, but at the same time, I'm feeling down because (sorry if it sounds selfish) I've never been in the "spotlight" so to speak.
And it's not like I'm a mediocre bassist. I don't just play the beginning note of every measure and let it ring out until the next measure. I've been playing for 4 years, and (not to brag) I'm very talented.
But its so frustrating because even my most intricate and complex bass solos only get a spattering of applause now and then while people always go wild for a single power chord on the guitar or keyboard. Girls are always dancing right in front of the guitar player, and in the end, everyone's always chanting the singer's name. Sometimes the guitarist, but mostly just the singer
I'm tired of always being in the shadow. Is there anyway for a bassist to gain more recognition or to stir up more crowd reaction in a band?
